Their trades with the early British settlers made for a long lasting relationship. The Navajo people transformed into herds and traders with their contact with the Spanish. They relied heavily on sheep and goat herding and were very willing to take in new cultural ideas. The Navajo people considered sheep as a trade commodity and social status was determined by the size of the herd. |
