wonderfully detailed and hand-painted with meticulous care. The optional chess cabinet has a built-in
storage compartment that accommodates the chess set's fitted tray which provides individual and
protective slots for each chess piece.

In 1187 Pope Gregory witnessed almost the complete obliteration of Christianity in Palestine. On 4 July, Saladin
won the decisive victory of Hittin, near Lake Tiberias; the terrible sultan was master of Jerusalem. The news of the
fall of the Holy City struck Europe like a thunderbolt. A Papal call to arms was put forth and the crusades were
underway.

Many European Knights became crusaders and took to the cause of fighting for Jerusalem for the Christians.
Some of these knightly orders were the Knights Hospitaliers and the Knights of Templar who fought strictly for the
cross.
