Polar Bear: Majestic creatures of the far north, polar bears are the world's largest terrestrial carnivore. As
their icy habitat disappears, the survival of the polar bear is at risk.
Owl: Owls are designed to be efficient and effective nighttime hunters, but their specialized design makes
it difficult for them to adapt to environmental changes. Owls are disappearing from deserts, grasslands
and forests.
Elephant: Of the two species, the African elephant is larger and more plentiful than the Asian elephant.
But both are threatened by shrinking living space and poaching for the ivory trade.
Killer Whale: Not really sure why the Killer Whale is included in this chess set because it's not
considered to be endangered.
Cheetah: All leopard subspecies are either endangered or threatened.
Orangutan: The lowland forest habitats of this red "man of the forest" are fast disappearing due to logging
and deliberate burning to make way for agriculture and oil palm plantations.
